The Phu My Wastewater Collection, Treatment, and Drainage System has officially been inaugurated. This project is aimed at enhancing environmental sustainability and public health in Ba Ria – Vung Tau province, Vietnam. This vital infrastructure initiative, developed by Royal HaskoningDHV and co-financed by Invest International marks a major step forward for the region. This is the fourth water project funded by Invest International in Vietnam.

New Wastewater Treatment plant

In response to the rapid development of Phu My Town’s residential areas, industrial zones, and seaports, local infrastructure has been under significant pressure from untreated wastewater. The new wastewater treatment plant addresses these challenges by protecting the environment and supporting sustainable growth for the region.

Cutting-edge technology of RHDHV

Royal HaskoningDHV brought in the Dutch knowledge and expertise. The plant is powered by RHDHV’s cutting-edge Carrousel® technology, having the capacity to treat 30,000 cubic meters of wastewater daily. This innovative biological treatment system is globally recognized for its efficiency and cost-effectiveness, having been successfully implemented in over 1,200 locations worldwide.

Investment in the water project

The project’s total investment amounts to €31.4 million, of which €10.047 million comes from non-refundable Official Development Assistance (ODA) provided by the Dutch government. On top of this investment, €1 million was used for development by RHDHV and €2 million is committed for operations and maintenance.

Invest International, through its mandate to use Dutch government funds for impactful international projects, facilitated this contribution, ensuring the successful execution of the plant. The remaining 65.5% of the total was provided by the Ba Ria – Vung Tau provincial counterpart fund.

Economic growth and impact

The project enables critical environmental improvements and contributes to the region’s economic growth. It includes the construction of four pumping stations, over 100 km of pipeline, and will connect 30,000 households and over 1,000 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), improving the living conditions of approximately 250,000 people.

At the inauguration ceremony, Hans Docter, CEO a.i. of Invest International, was joined by Daniël Stork, Consul General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ho Chi Minh City, and key representatives from Ba Ria – Vung Tau province, underscoring the importance of international cooperation and Dutch support in driving sustainable infrastructure development.
