How can we ensure that people around the world have access to decent, affordable public services, such as clean drinking water, at a time when climate change threatens our environment, economies, and societies? We invest in public infrastructure projects, matching funding for long-term solutions, and Dutch expertise, with our partner governments’ priorities and needs.
We are matchmakers who use knowledge and networks to connect stakeholders with Dutch businesses and our partner governments. Together, we support infrastructure development that spurs economic growth and private sector development while also tackling the effects of climate change. We match grants to countries that need them and where Dutch expertise can deliver long-term solutions. These areas of expertise – the sectors on which we focus – are agri-food, water and infrastructure, healthcare, energy and manufacturing.
We co-fund public infrastructure projects that cannot be financed or operated on a commercial basis.
The project will impact positively on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, SDG 8 (decent work and economic growth) and SDG 13 (limit and adapt to climate change).
Companies involved in the implementation of infrastructure projects must comply with IFC standards for ESG.
We co-fund with our partner governments and, if needed, together we can reach out to other financiers. We facilitate our partners’ projects, but we don’t take over their responsibilities.
The densely populated port city of Conakry, capital of Guinea in West-Africa, lies between estuaries and ravines. These natural barriers isolate districts from one another and make travelling to work time-consuming and public facilities like hospitals difficult to access. The construction of five steel bridges and 12 kilometres of road surface will change this.
The 26-year conflict concluded in 2009 has damaged essential public infrastructure, including hospitals that need redevelopment or modernisation. VAMED Netherlands, a leading integrated hospital and healthcare provider, has built and equipped four hospitals to help the Northern Province better serve more communities among its 1.25 million inhabitants.
Dar es Salaam, the largest city in Tanzania and commercial port on the Indian Ocean coast, faces increasing vulnerability to river flash flooding. This is primarily due to extreme rainfall in relation to climate change, and rapid and largely uncontrolled urban growth. To address this, a DRIVE-project between Invest International, the Government of Tanzania and the World Bank – aims to mitigate the negative impacts of flooding on both the population and assets in the lower Msimbazi basin area.
