Sustainable and a source of food ingredients for meat replacement and feed additives. Algae are fascinating organisms that can contribute to a better planet and better health. A perfect fit with Invest International’s Agrifood strategy focused on transforming the food system, Invest International now invests in Phycom, an innovative algae producer from The Netherlands with a state-of-the-art production facility in Veenendaal. Our investment supports the company with its further international growth path and commercial roll-out.
Phycom is a producer of algae for the food and feed industry. Algae are one of the most effective protein sources on earth; CO2 emissions are nearly 40 times lower than meat protein. The company’s mission is to produce high-quality food products that improve human and animal health on a large scale.
One of the main reasons for Invest International invests to Phycom is its innovative production method, that is more efficient and sustainable than conventional micro-algae production. Furthermore, Invest International’s investment supports direct jobs in the Netherlands, enables the company to develop an international expansion plan and contributes to SDG 13 (climate action) and SDG 8 (sustainable economic growth).
The investment involves a total of 2 million euros in Equity as part of a Series A funding round to enable further company growth. For the total investment of 9 million euros Invest International has teamed up with Invest-NL, Corbion and Phase2.earth.
