Project summary
Traditional hotel developments can have a significant environmental footprint, while many people remain excluded from the labour market. The Good Hospitality Group believes hospitality can help address both challenges at once. Their hotels host guests, create longterm job opportunities for people with a distance to the labour market and fund education in Guatemala.
With a €5 million loan through DTIF, the fund Invest International manages on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the company is building a floating social impact hotel to locate in London.
The hotel is designed according to BREEAM sustainability standards and aims to operate as an energy-neutral building through solar panels, heat exchange from harbour water and high-performance insulation.
The floating structure is being built in the Netherlands together with Holland Shipyards, a family owned shipbuilder with a long track record in sustainable maritime solutions, before being transported to the UK. They have delivered dozens of electric and hybrid vessels and are exploring pioneering applications such as hydrogen propulsion, wind assisted transport and even 3Dprinted vessels. Their combination of deep technical expertise and practical innovation is exactly what keeps the Dutch maritime sector internationally relevant.
