Rainmaker Holland, a cleantech company based in Rotterdam, is making waves with its innovative technology that produces drinking water from air or seawater using off-grid, solar-powered systems. With support from Invest International’s export financing, Rainmaker is scaling its impact to East Africa and other parts of the world.
In Djibouti, where freshwater scarcity is a growing concern, Rainmaker is establishing a prefabricated factory to produce bottled drinking water from seawater. This facility will operate entirely on renewable energy, reducing the need for water imports and increasing local access to safe drinking water.Â
Invest International’s export financing is enabling this Dutch innovation to be deployed in a commercially viable and sustainable way—supporting local development while strengthening the international position of the Netherlands’ cleantech sector.Â
Rainmaker’s technology has already proven its value in southern Vietnam, where several Air-to-Water units were deployed in 2024. These modular systems extract humidity from the air and convert it into safe drinking water—completely off-grid and powered by solar energy.Â
While the Vietnam project was not financed by Invest International, it demonstrates the scalability and global relevance of Rainmaker’s solutions.Â
Export finance made it possible for Rainmaker Holland to export its cleantech solution to Djibouti, opening new markets for Dutch innovation.
Financing is facilitating the setup of a prefabricated factory in Djibouti to produce bottled drinking water from seawater—powered by renewable energy.
The project will significantly increase local availability of clean drinking water, reducing dependency on costly water imports.
By supporting off-grid, solar-powered systems, the financing contributes to climate adaptation and sustainability in water-scarce regions.
