Water and Infrastructure

Along Togo’s 56-kilometre coastline, more than two million people directly rely on the sea for their livelihoods, while critical infrastructure such as ports, roads and industrial zones drive the country’s economy. Yet this narrow stretch is increasingly exposed to erosion, flooding and rising sea levels. A new phase of coastal protection works is starting to turn that tide, strengthening the shoreline while protecting communities and economic activity for the long term, building on a combination of Dutch expertise and international financing.

In Kenya, access to clean drinking water from the tap remains a challenge for many residential areas. Hydrax Water, a Dutch start-up, is changing that by offering a full-service water purification solution tailored to Homeowner Associations (HOAs). With support from Invest International through the Dutch Good Growth Fund, Hydrax Water is expanding its operations and impact across the country.

As climate threats intensify across West Africa, governments face growing pressure to anticipate floods, droughts, and desertification. In response, the Niger Basin Authority is implementing a satellite-based water monitoring and flow forecasting system—leveraging Dutch expertise to use data for climate adaptation, water management, and agricultural planning.
