Project summary
The Gaziantep public city hospital complex, with 1875 new beds, will serve Gaziantep and surrounding cities in south-central Türkiye. The complex will add much needed healthcare capacity to the region, which was hit by a devastating earthquake on the 6th of February 2023. The earthquake and aftershocks led to more than 50.000 casualties across Türkiye and Syria, with thousands still missing and with 15 hospitals significantly damaged.
In the short term, the impact of the earthquake and aftershocks will likely pivot the regional health planning to focus on emergency and psychological care. In the long term, the hospital will increase universal health coverage and access to quality essential healthcare services.
Due to our funding, the hospital will be equipped with equipment from Philips, ensuring that patients receive high-quality healthcare.
The project looks to the future too. There is current and future high population growth in the region, partly due to the large influx of Syrian refugees in recent years. The project is to become one of the major providers of healthcare that accounts for that population growth.
Project impact
Creating local jobs
The construction of the Health Campus is set to create up to 8,000 direct full-time jobs, with an additional 6,000 positions expected during operations.
Enhancing access to healthcare
The project will contribute to promoting good health and well-being by enhancing local access to healthcare services for Gaziantep’s residents.
