Project summary
Founded in Maastricht, Mosa Meat made history in 2013 by introducing the world’s first cultivated beef burger. Today, the company is focused on bringing its food technology to consumers by expanding internationally.
Entering new markets requires more than technological innovation. It involves validating market opportunities, establishing supply-chain and production partnerships, and navigating complex regulatory approval processes. These challenges are particularly relevant in markets outside the European Union, where cultivated meat regulations are evolving at different speeds.
Invest International is supporting Mosa Meat’s international growth ambitions with a €875,000 repayable development capital contribution through its Development Accelerator. The financing will help prepare the company for market entry and commercialization in strategic markets including Singapore, the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States, Australia and New Zealand.
By supporting Mosa Meat’s international scale-up, Invest International is contributing to Dutch innovation reach global markets while ensuring knowledge, expertise and economic value remain anchored in the Netherlands.
Over the past years Mosa Meat has received strong investor backing. One of the investors is actor and activist Leonardo di Caprio. In December 2025 the company secured €15 million in new funding from a group of investors including regional development agency LIOF, Invest-NL, and Jitse Groen, the founder of Just Eat Takeaway.com.
Mosa Meat has been B Corp Certified since September 2023 and was the first cultivated meat company in the world to achieve B Corp certification.
