Project summary

Schouten’s ambitious plan includes establishing 20 large-scale production facilities and micro-fermentation units, engaging 2,000 families in decentralized tempeh production. These families will not only produce tempeh for Schouten but will eventually own the units, fostering local entrepreneurship and economic empowerment.

This investment, facilitated through a loan from the Dutch Good Growth Fund, underscores the Netherlands’ commitment to sustainable food solutions and knowledge-sharing in emerging markets. The project promotes resource-efficient protein production, using significantly less water, land, and energy compared to animal-based proteins.

By supporting Schouten, Invest International is driving sustainable food innovation, economic growth, and global impact, making tempeh a key ingredient in the future of plant-based nutrition.
