Project summary
The company provides laboratory services for the propagation of plants through tissue culture, which helps customers scale up a new plant product and introduce it to the market faster. It has experience with over 500 diverse crops across its production facilities in the Netherlands, Macedonia, Brasil, and Ghana.
To support Iribov’s expansion in Ghana, we provided a €6.8 million loan in 2023 through the Dutch Good Growth Fund (DGGF), which we manage on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This financing enabled the construction of new greenhouses and a laboratory, expected to be operational in the first quarter of 2026. As the project progressed, Iribov identified the need for a larger facility to meet growing demand. To support this ambition, we provided an additional €4.2 million in financing in 2025.
The expanded facilities will help Iribov meet the rising global demand for tissue culture-based crops and supply mature plant material to the West African market. The second loan will enable the creation of 200 additional jobs in Ghana, bringing the total to 700—75% of which will be filled by women.
Project impact
Decent jobs for women
By expanding its facilities in Ghana, Iribov will create a total of 700 jobs, 75% of which are expected to be filled by women. In the Netherlands, the expansion will generate six new jobs.
Embracing renewable energy
To reduce its carbon footprint, Iribov will install solar panels in Ghana, covering at least 85% of the facility’s electricity needs with renewable energy.
Opportunities for Dutch suppliers
The construction of the new facilities in Ghana offers valuable opportunities for Dutch suppliers to contribute their expertise and technology like Geerlofs Koeltechniek Iribov collaborates with.
Tripling production capacity
With the new facilities in place, Iribov’s production capacity will triple—enabling faster delivery to market and supporting higher turnover.
