Project summary
PAIX has been developing and managing international internet nodes that form the heart of digital infrastructure in countries such as Ghana, Ivory Coast and Kenya since 2011. These centres are also carrier-neutral, which is essential to telecom providers unwilling to share and store data in centres belonging to competitors.
We provided PAIX with a €2,75 million loan via the Dutch Good Growth Fund (DGGF), which we manage on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to help the company build data centres in Ghana and Kenya and boost the online services of its African clients, including local internet providers, banks and telecom firms.
Project impact
Creating decent local jobs
The data centre employees receive salaries well above the minimum wage, pension contributions and health insurance for themselves and their families.
Stimulating Africa’s ICT sector
The company works closely with the European data centre industry to transfer specialist knowledge on connectivity, security and complex equipment.
