Invest International supports the international growth ambitions of Dutch cultivated meat pioneer Mosa Meat with a repayable development capital contribution of €875,000 from its Development Accelerator. The financing will enable the food technology company to validate new markets, establish production and supply chain partnerships, and navigate regulatory approval processes in strategic markets including Singapore, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the United States. Crucial steps into getting a ‘bite into a better future’.
Mosa Meat
Founded in Maastricht, Mosa Meat made history in 2013 in London when co-founder Professor Mark Post unveiled the world’s first cultivated beef burger. The burger demonstrated for the first time that a cultivated product could be grown from animal cells without raising and slaughtering livestock. What started as a scientific breakthrough has since evolved into one of the world’s leading cultivated meat companies, focused on bringing sustainable beef products to consumers at scale. About to change the food system. A transition needed because global demand for protein continues to rise, pressure on natural resources increases and innovative food technologies are becoming more important.
Maarten Bosch, CEO Mosa Meat: “The investment from Invest International is helping us bridge the gap between breakthrough science and commercial reality.”

From bold ideas to international markets
The technology is proven. But securing funding for the transition from laboratory-scale innovation to commercial international deployment is still a difficult task. Mosa Meat faces regulatory, production scale-up, and market-entry hurdles before its cultivated products can reach supermarket shelves. Through its Development Accelerator, Invest International helps make possible this step towards international market entry and a lookout to long-term growth.
“The Netherlands has built a strong global reputation as an innovator in agriculture and food technology,” says Jeroen Plag, Chief Investment Officer at Invest International. “Mosa Meat has already demonstrated that its technology works. We know now that cultivated meat can be produced, now the company needs to gain access to international markets, navigate regulatory frameworks, reach consumers and scale production.”
Jeroen Plag, CIO Invest International: “The technology works. Now Mosa Meat has to gain access to international markets.”
He continues:“By supporting Dutch companies with breakthrough technologies in their international scale-up journey, we help ensure that valuable knowledge, innovation and economic activity remain anchored in the Netherlands. At the same time, we strengthen the international position of Dutch solutions and contribute directly to the resilience and earning capacity of the Dutch economy.”
Maarten Bosch, CEO of Mosa Meat: “I dream of the day when people can enjoy cultivated beef burgers. Perhaps in some of the world’s most innovative restaurants first, and eventually in some of the world’s largest burger chains. That’s when we’ll know we’re truly reshaping the food system. The investment from Invest International is helping us bridge the gap between breakthrough science and commercial reality, bringing that vision within reach.”
Development capital as a springboard
For Mosa Meat validating new markets and navigating complex regulatory approval processes are particularly important outside the European Union. Commercial sales of cultivated meat in the EU require approval under the European Novel Foods Regulation, which is considered the gold standard in food safety, a process that can take up to 6 years. At the same time other jurisdictions have also developed regulatory frameworks for cultivated foods, allowing the first cultivated products to enter the market.

Countries such as Singapore have positioned themselves at the forefront of cultivated meat regulation, offering companies opportunities to bring products to market sooner. The United Kingdom, and the United States are also considered strategic markets where growing consumer interest, innovation-friendly ecosystems and evolving regulatory pathways create opportunities for commercialization.
Leonardi di Caprio, Invest-NL and other investors
Over the past years Mosa Meat has received strong investor backing. One of the investors is actor and activist Leonardo di Caprio. In December 2025 the company secured €15 million in new funding from a group of investors including regional development agency LIOF, Invest-NL, and Jitse Groen, the founder of Just Eat Takeaway.com. Invest International is proud to be also part of Mosa Meat’s journey, backing an innovative Dutch company that is turning the future of food into reality today.
