Yesterday, Invest International and ICICI Bank signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to launch the Dutch Desk India, an agreement formalized in the presence of Sarbananda Sonowal, India’s Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, and Robert Tieman, the Netherlands’ Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management. With this new step, we are expanding our proven Dutch Desk model – already successfully operating in Nigeria and Kenya – to one of the most promising markets for Dutch businesses.
Why India?
India is one of the 14 combi-countries designated by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In these countries, the Netherlands combines trade promotion with development cooperation, aiming to create impact by stimulating sustainable economic growth while supporting Dutch companies abroad. India fits this strategy perfectly: around 300 Dutch companies are already active in India, while some 350 Indian companies operate in the Netherlands. Interest among Dutch entrepreneurs to explore opportunities in India continues to grow. Building on transactions we already have in the market, we see significant potential for more – and the Dutch Desk India will play an important role in unlocking it.
How the Dutch Desk India helps
The Dutch Desk is a dedicated financing hub that connects Dutch entrepreneurs with both international and local financing opportunities. In India, we are partnering with ICICI Bank, one of the country’s leading banks with a highly professional approach and a broad service offering. Beyond standard banking, ICICI provides access to sector specialists, economic desks, and its wide professional network through its Multinational Client branches in more than ten Indian cities. In the Netherlands, Invest International will collaborate with ICICI Bank’s Frankfurt office to meet with Dutch companies interested in expanding to India, directly at their locations in the Netherlands.
