Over 60 entrepreneurs, along with the prominent business associations VNO-NCW and MKB-Nederland, have jointly issued a letter to the Dutch cabinet, calling for increased investment in the further growth of Invest International. The signatories emphasize that this investment is not only self-sustaining but also crucial for maintaining the Netherlands’ competitive edge in the global market, particularly against other nations.

Support Dutch business

The letter highlights that many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have greatly benefited from the unique financing solutions offered by Invest International. The organization has experienced rapid growth, surpassing initial expectations, as Dutch companies have quickly taken advantage of its services. The entrepreneurs are urging the government to continue this positive momentum by providing additional capital, ensuring that Invest International can support Dutch businesses in expanding their market share globally in the coming years. The letter is specifically directed to the minister of Finance Eelco Heinen.

Triple Win for Taxpayers

“The time is now to allow Invest International the room to grow further,” the letter asserts. “This expansion guarantees a triple win: financing Dutch companies strengthens our economy, generates dividends for taxpayers, and contributes significantly to sustainability initiatives.”

The Waste Transformers is one of the Dutch entrepreneurs that signed the letter. The company specialises in manufacturing and installing modular biogas generators called ‘waste transformers’. These innovative biodigesters empower businesses ranging from supermarkets to hotels, football clubs, and hospitals to turn food waste on-site into biogas (to generate clean electricity and heat) and natural fertilisers.

We provided €5 million in equity to support The Waste Transformers’ international expansion and impact mission to combat food waste globally, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and advance the circular economy. The investment is part of a funding round totalling €10 million.

New Investment to amplify impact

A fresh capital injection would empower Invest International to amplify its impact even further. Every tax euro invested returns through Invest International, with an additional 80 cents contributing directly to the Dutch economy. Moreover, by stimulating international trade and investment, Invest International plays a vital role in advancing key goals outlined in the coalition agreement, such as food security and water management. More broadly, it contributes to the safety and resilience of the Netherlands, bolstering our competitive standing and overall prosperity.
